The Blush Fund

The Blush Project is currently raising funds to provide grants to women in need who have been harmed by sexual harassment in the workplace.

What is the Price of Workplace Sexual Harassment?

Jennifer Drobac, a professor of law at Indiana University’s Robert H. McKinney School of Law. “If you have to leave to escape sexual harassment, you’re not climbing the corporate ladder and you’re stalled in your career,” she said. “You have to start over again at the bottom rung. You didn’t get the pay raises, the training, the opportunities to shine, and you’re constantly watching your back.”
There are also psychological costs, she said. Many employees who experience harassment may actually admire the perpetrator’s career, which can impact a person’s mental health. And victims themselves, if they make formal accusations or share their story, may be shrouded in suspicion and doubt, Yamada said.

Who Does Sexual Harassment Affect?

A recent poll conducted by MSN, in partnership with Business Insider, revealed that one in three people (31 percent) in the U.S. admitted to having experienced sexual harassment on the job. Altogether, 45 percent of women surveyed cited sexual harassment problems at work — around 33.6 million women. The group experiencing the most abuse was women between the ages 30 and 44, of whom close to half (49 percent) said they had undergone unwanted sexual attention while working. 47 percent of women ages 45 to 64 said they were targeted, followed by 41 percent of women ages 18 to 20, and 40 percent of women 65 or older. In addition, 15 percent of men said they had experienced workplace sexual harassment.
Solution: The Blush Fund
The Blush Project has a well-deserved reputation for championing the causes and rights of women in sexual harassment. Accepting the responsibility to carry the mantel for being a cornerstone organization of supporting women in an extremely sensitive subject matter and protecting the rights of individual who often do not have the network and resources to defend and protect their right for justice is no small task. We believe that by collecting and administering a fund that women, targeted by sexual harassment, can apply to for financial assistance, that we are able to assist those most in need.
