On June 25th we hosted our first virtual #MeToo Meet Up, featuring a conversation between advocate Anna Kain and author and lawyer M. Reese Everson. Anna and Reese shared strategies for finding healing and support amidst current events, drawing upon their personal experiences and Reese’s book “The B.A.B.E.’s Guide to Winning in the Workplace.”

Girl UP George Washington University Women’s History Month Gala 2020 Girl UP GW hosted a panel of 5 distinguished guest from the GWU community and beyond to discuss their experiences as women and their career paths. Girl Up GW organized this gala as a night to inspire the young women in our organization and on our campus in honor of Women’s History Month. Girl Up GW hopes to assemble a group of renowned women, like yourself, to engage in a productive dialogue about the opportunities for women in today’s society through mingling and mocktails.

2020 9th Annual Black Women of Power National Summit The three day strategy conversation, featured some of the nation’s most influential Black women leaders from across the spectrum of politics, philanthropy, business, labor, civil and human rights, faith, law enforcement, media, academia, and community activists. Melanie L. Campbell, BWR National Convener and President & CEO of the National Coalition on Black Civic Participation shared, “Our goal with hosting this annual cross-generational forum focused specifically on Black women from varying backgrounds is to strategize and organize ourselves in a way that continues to expand and strengthen the power of Black women’s leadership and moves a policy agenda focused on our needs forward.

The NAACP Annual Convention is regarded as the event of the year for those interested in advancing civil and human rights. The NAACP leads a national dialogue on civil rights advocacy through workshops, symposiums, training and related activities. Nearly 8,000 people, including NAACP members, civil rights leaders, community activists, volunteers, business and political leaders, gather to explore and to share models of advocacy for strengthening communities. The NAACP Annual Convention is attended primarily by NAACP members who make up the 2,200 units across the United States and abroad. In addition, it attracts established business professionals, civil rights activists, families, youth and a growing cohort of young professionals.

Essence Festival

an annual music festival which started in 1995 as a one-time event to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Essence, a magazine aimed primarily towards African-American women. It became the largest African-American culture and music event in the United States.Locally referred to as the Essence Fest, it has been held in New Orleans, Louisiana since 1995. The festival features artists simultaneously performing on a main stage as well as four standing-room only superlounge stages. In 2017 it attracted more than 470,000 attendees. As always, the festival was divided into two parts: the ticketed concert series which takes place during three evenings in the Dome, and a free exposition of empowerment discussions, fashion demonstrations, art exhibits, and assorted activities that takes place in the Morial Convention Center.
